I suppose you could say I am reasonably happy with my appearance - I know how to make the best of myself. Let's face it, being in the public eye for almost two decades means I have learned lots of 'tricks of the trade' with regards to beauty products, treatments and make-up. (I have been sharing those little 'tips & secrets' with you at my "Keane On Style" events all over the country). However, over the last couple of years I have noticed that my skin is just getting a little bit looser around my jaw, eyelids and cheekbones. Going under the knife is not something I want to do but I still want to look as young as I can, so discovering a new treatment that promises to give me the improvements I want in a non-invasive way was definitely something I was interested in.

So just over 2 weeks ago I had my first non-invasive cosmetic procedure, that not only promises to halt the signs of aging (woo-hoo!), but actually reverse them (bonus!). It’s called Ultherapy and it works by rejuvenating your skin’s collagen.

Performed by one of Ireland’s leading aesthetic surgeons, Dr Garrett Brady of Lowell Medical, the treatment itself is surprisingly quick. As recommended, I took 800mg of Ibuprofen beforehand (Ok I took 2 x 500mg - I hate pain!) and over the next hour and a half Dr. Brady worked the Ultherapy wand over my neck and jaw and cheeks. Was it painful? Well we all have different thresholds for pain - for me it was like plucking hair (actually a little less painful than that!) or like an elastic band pinching sensation. Let's just say we were able to chat away throughout the treatment.

Afterwards my face looked a little flushed, but otherwise there really wasn’t an immediate difference (some people see results straight away) although in the last few weeks I have received comments like "You look great" or "You're skin looks great - what products do you use?". I think I look less tired, fresher, if that makes any sense? I also love the fact that there is no down time so I was able to apply make up straight away and go about my business for the day. Garrett tells me the magic only happens over the coming months as new fresh collagen starts to rebuild...like in our 20's!

It should reach it's peak in about three months so I should see a real difference around Christmas time - when you all look partied out, I will look as fresh as a daisy, lol!

I decided to share my experience by doing a blog of the treatment before, during and after with photos (AND no make-up, I felt it was more honest that way!) tracking the developments of my Ultherapy over the next few months. So, if you’d like to see if and how, in the experts hands of Dr. Garrett Brady, Ultherapy improves my skin tone over the coming weeks and months, why not follow me on Facebook or Twitter #KeaneOnUltherapy
